I contacted Comcast about this.   Steve Kipp says Comcast does indeed have contractors going door to door, and the employees Renton PD was talking about in it’s release WERE, in fact, working for a Comcast contractor.   After my call,   Comcast contacted Renton PD to find out what was going on and was able to ascertain that the workers generating complaints were, in fact,  giving false information to consumers and as of this afternoon, have been terminated by the independent contractor.

Renton police are warning residents about a number of scammers who are going door-to-door pretending to be Comcast employees.

Police say the men knock on doors and tell residents they’ve been sent by Comcast to offer free cable services. The men wear orange Comcast vests and carry clipboards, and at least one man has a yellow Comcast hat.

There have been no reports of the men actually entering any of the houses, but police believe the group could be “casing” the homes for later burglaries.

Comcast officials confirmed that the men are not employees and said the company is not offering free cable.

The suspects have been described as white men ranging in age from 30- to 60-years old, and one man was seen driving a blue Hyundai.

Unless you’ve made an appointment with the company, Renton police ask that you call 911 if you see anyone wearing a Comcast uniform on your property.
