State Senator Proposing Assault Weapons Ban

""
Submitted by Travis Mayfield on Thursday, November 19th, 05:21pm

Seattlecrime.com reports:

As a result of the shooting deaths of three Seattle residents with assault weapons in as many months -- among them Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton -- Sen. Adam Kline, D-Seattle, says he is proposing legislation to instate a law similar to the now-expired Federal Assault Weapons Ban.

Sen Kline represents the 37th district which stretches from Seattle's Madrona neighborhood to Renton along Lake Washington.

The proposed legislation will not do anything, to stop a deranged idiot, or any other type of bad guy. It would only infringe on a law abiding citizens rights, and his ability to protect him/herself from these same kinds of people.

How is banning cosmestic features on firearms going to do anything?

The ban prohibited any semi-automatic rifle that can accept a detachable magazine and features two or more of the following characteristics:

  • A folding or telescoping stock
  • A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon
  • A bayonet mount
  • A flash suppressor or barrel having a threaded muzzle
  • A grenade launcher
Except the grenade launcher all of these features are entirely cosmetic! The way a gun looks has NOTHING to do with how it functions.

Real miltary weapons (Fully automatic weapons) have been strictly regulated since the National Firearms Act of 1934 (and not even legal to own here in WA even with jumping through all the hoops). Under the old AWB, it banned semi-automatic firearms.Semi-automatic means you pull the trigger once and for the gun to fire again you have to pull the trigger again. Semi-automatic firearms have been around for more than 100 hundred years.Fully automatic means you can hold the trigger down and it will continue to fire as long as it is held down.

The appearance of a gun looks has nothing to do with how powerful it is. In fact, if you compare a .223 round an AR-15 fires compared to a 30-06 round a deer rifle fires. The 30-06 is at least TWICE as powerful than the .223 round. Theres even big game rifles that fire a round that EIGHT TIMES as powerful as a .223!

How about we ban bad guys?

It is not a gun that kills it is the person using the gun. Remember terrists with knives killed 2000 people with 2 airplanes.

Taking away another one of our freedoms because of actions of the few is rediculous and dangerous to our constitution. The people that killed with assault weapons would have killed with some other weapon. It's not the guns that are the problem--people who choose to kill will kill with whatever weapon is available. Wake up Americans and see that it's just another politician putting a feather in his cap and showing the public how much he cares and saving face with constituants. He has to "DO" something to show the public since the killings are so publicised in the media. Taking away another one of our rights is not the answer and it WON'T stop killers from killing. But it will "kill" our way of life eventually if we continue to allow politicians that want to cover their $#&sses by taking away rights of the citizens. Won't be long until we won't have the right to even write these types of blogs....

Restricting our 2nd amendment rights will do nothing to keep guns out the hands of a person that wants to kill.  GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE DO!

Just enforce the LAWS that are on our books and don't just add more.

Another impotent, reactionary politician.  Where was this proposed legislation before those folks were killed?  You offer up a knee-jerk solution to the recent headlines, and engage your mouth without thinking it through.  I guess that qualifies you for your job, Senator.

Consider this, before you spend our tax dollars on unenforceable and lame politically-centered laws:  If you and the missus are walking down the street and a tweaker runs up, snatches the wife's purse, and smacks her with a brick, are you going to propose "anti-brick" legislation, too?
